The routine
Do you always make mistakes at beer pong and feel very insecure because of it?
Some of our team members are familiar with this problem, so we asked the best of the best for a few tips. Beer Pong World Champion Elias Ulrich shares his wisdom with you.
Career of the World Champion
Elias is Swiss and only started playing Beer Pong in 2017.
After his 5th tournament, he already won his first tournament.
In 2019 he won the European Series of Beer Pong, followed by first place in the doubles of the DSOBP (Dutch Series of Beer Pong).
He also participated in the World Series of Beer Pong in Las Vegas in 2019. This event featured over 1,000 players and a prize pool of over $35,000. Elias won this individual tournament and has since been called Beer Pong World Champion.
He achieved further victories in singles and doubles in Switzerland and other tournaments.
The throwing bows
A trained Beer Pong eye can detect differences in the arc of the throws.
An arc shot is a pitch with a wider arc, while a fastball has a flatter arc. A bouncer, on the other hand, is a pitch where the ball bounces against the table in an attempt to hit a cup.
Of course, there are numerous throwing techniques. However, a good throw also depends on how many and which fingers are used to hold the ball.
Many players bend their knees slightly before shooting and bounce their balls, just like basketball players. Perhaps this is a method that will help you hit the ball.
According to the world champion, one thing is particularly important: keeping calm.
You should experiment until you find the throwing technique that works for you. And then just get started. Don't waste too much time thinking about the risks; just play. Some players also develop little rituals to help them calm down. For example, practicing a few throwing movements or taking a few deep breaths.
Elias throws in a slight arc from above. He uses two fingers (index finger and thumb). Perhaps this is the best technique for you, too! How far forward you lean can also make a decisive difference. In professional beer pong, elbows are not used, so you can lean forward a bit like Elias. The following video explains his throwing technique in detail.
Routine is key: Once you get used to your throw, you'll be able to assess your trajectory much better and know how to make adjustments.
In summary: Decide on a throwing technique and a ball grip. It's important to keep the motion consistent so you get into the swing of things. Once you've got that down, don't overthink the shot; just throw. This will definitely make you a better player. Of course, it's also important to always use the same beer pong cups. If you're looking for cups with the official dimensions of the World Series of Beer Pong, you'll find them here.
