Various funny versions
Driving a Bus is a very popular drinking game that almost everyone has played at least once. However, there are different versions – we'll explain them to you in this blog. Perhaps you're not familiar with one yet.
You need
- Cards (for a small group: card set with 32 cards, for 5 or more people: 52 cards)
- 2-8 players
- alcoholic beverages
Version 1: Pyramid
This version is probably the best known.
Construction:
The cards are laid out face down in a pyramid shape in the center of the table. We recommend laying out five rows.
Rules of the game:
- A player deals each participant and himself a total of three cards . The first card must be red or black , the second card higher or lower, and the third card must be outside or inside the two cards. If the guess is incorrect, the player must take a drink.
- Then, the cards in the middle are revealed one by one. At each level of the pyramid, a sip is added. For example, if a queen is revealed, anyone with a queen among their three cards can place it on top of the queen and distribute one, two, or three (depending on the pyramid level) sips.
- Whoever has the most cards after all cards have been revealed has to “take the bus”
- When driving a bus, one card is placed face up and five are placed face down. The bus driver must guess whether each card is higher or lower. If they make a mistake, they must take a sip and start again until they have guessed the entire row correctly.
Version 2: Heaven and Hell
This version has some differences from the pyramid version. However, you can of course combine both versions.
Game start:
The cards are shuffled thoroughly before the game begins. One player deals the cards one at a time, asking each player whether it's red or black. If a player guesses incorrectly, they must take a drink. Then, in turn, they ask each player whether it's higher or lower, and then whether it's inside or outside. This player also does this for themselves, of course. At the end, everyone should have three cards face up in front of them.
Construction:
The cards are laid out face down in two rows of five cards each. One row represents heaven, so to speak, and the other hell. An additional card is placed at the end.
Rules of the game:
- First, decide which row represents heaven and which represents hell. In heaven , you drink yourself , and in hell, you distribute the drinks .
- The cards are revealed one at a time. If a card is revealed in Heaven, such as a Queen, the players who also have a Queen must drink and keep their card. If a card is revealed in Hell, such as a 10, the players who have a 10 must pass it to another player, who must then drink the sips. The sips are increased by one after each level.
- When the last card is dealt, 5 sips are distributed/drinked. For example, if a king is revealed, the players who have a king must pass the card to another player. The former owner of the king and the new owner must both drink 5 sips.
- Whoever has the most cards after all cards have been revealed has to “take the bus”.
- When driving a bus, five cards are placed face down. The bus driver then has to guess, almost like at the beginning. For the first card, they have to guess red or black, then higher or lower, inside or outside, have it or don't have it (whether the spade, heart, diamond, or club symbol is already there or not). If they guess incorrectly, the bus driver has to start over and drink as many sips as the number of cards revealed.
