Beer Pong

Mingle successfully with the experienced Beer Pong crowd without attracting negative attention!

Never played Beer Pong before? That's weird, but no reason to be ashamed! We're happy to help and prepare you for your first game. We offer some helpful tips and tricks, as well as general information about Beer Pong. Read on, take mental notes, and impress your opponents right from the start on the Beer Pong stage. We won't distract you any further; let's get started:

Beer Pong is a classic drinking game all over the world. Everyone knows it, and (almost) everyone loves it. Except, of course, for those who don't sink a single ball. This can be very frustrating for your teammates, but it's important to remember: everyone started small somewhere.
Or do you think that beer pong talent just falls from the sky?
Absolutely not. Good beer pong skills require a lot of practice, a feel for the ball, and, of course, accuracy. Even if everyone was once a complete beginner, no one wants to reveal themselves as a beer pong virgin at a shared apartment party. But how do you convince even the most experienced beer pong pro of your experience, even if it's a complete lie?

Don't panic, we're here to help you with advice and support. So, take your time reading this guide and shine in your next beer pong game.

Don't get cocky

The worst thing you can do as a beginner in any discipline is overestimate yourself. If you praise yourself too much before a game, it will only be more embarrassing during the game. Then everyone will realize it was just empty words. So stay calm, try not to get too nervous, and drink a little to build up your courage. Not too much, of course, but enough so that you can blame your bad throws on your level if necessary.
And who knows, maybe it'll turn out better than expected. But even if it doesn't, it'll definitely be more fun!
If things really go wrong, you can suggest another drinking game to distract the party. How about a round of cups or a game of shot pong ?

Are you still lacking a little understanding of the rules?

No problem. The exact rules of Beer Pong are relatively easy to explain. We've got a short version for you here.

Beer Pong Rules - Short Version

Ultimately, the goal is to be the first to hit all 10 of the opposing team's cups with the ball. You're allowed two throws at a time. There are exceptions, of course.

If your opponent sinks one of your cups, the beer in it must be drunk.
That's it, broadly speaking. But you'll learn the details in no time. As the saying goes, "learning by doing."

What type of litter are you?

Let's move on to the most important aspect of beer pong: throwing. The more you play, the more you'll become aware of your throwing style. Do you tend to throw short balls, or do you tend to overshoot when in doubt?
For each type of throw, there's a specific throwing technique that will make it easier for you to hit the target. So, reflect on your throws and figure out how to give yourself an advantage.

A quick tip : Many Beer Pong players find it helpful to focus on a tuned cup, for example, in the middle, so that there's a cup behind it and one in front of it. In case of doubt, the probability of hitting one of the three cups is higher.

Watch and Learn

No one has ever become a world champion. But you can definitely learn something from those who are already very good at it. Sit out the first few games and watch how they position themselves, how they hold their arm, and what tactics they use. Maybe you can then implement these in your first few games. But even if it doesn't work out, it's absolutely not the end of the world. Beer pong is still a game; it's meant to be fun and create a good atmosphere. And by the time your team has lost the game, you'll all be pretty tipsy from the beer. Then no one will care who wins or loses anymore anyway.

Which beer is best?

As a complete beginner at beer pong, you'll unfortunately have to suffer one defeat after another. Therefore, it's definitely helpful to play with beer that won't leave you with an incredibly heavy stomach afterward.
So are there beers that are better suited for beer pong than others?
The answer here is actually "no," as everyone should decide according to their own taste. However, light, pale beers are naturally less intense and easier to drink. Since the alcohol content is lower, you won't get drunk quite as quickly. However, if that's your goal, you should opt for stronger beers. Good examples of light beers are the Belgian classic "Leffe," the Dutch "Heineken," or the Rhineland "Früh Kölsch." Stronger beers, on the other hand, include the Belgian "Karmeliet Tripel" or the Paulaner "Salvator." Be careful, or you'll quickly find yourself under the table!

So the motto is: It’s better to play several rounds with a light beer.

Don't forget the fun factor

This entire post is about how to avoid embarrassing yourself in front of your friends as a beer pong beginner. However, success is ultimately irrelevant. The most important thing is to have fun. And yes, we know this sounds like a pep talk from your mom when you only received a participation certificate at the National Youth Games again. But it's true!
Beer Pong was invented by a bunch of drunken college students in the 1960s. That should show you that you don't have to take yourself too seriously. A bit of luck is always involved, because even the best tactics don't always work.
Of course, the right beer pong equipment will also help you achieve better results. In the TT Beer Pong review, you'll find a selection of beer pong tables. We promise you'll look significantly more professional with them.
